APL Limited

Oakland-based ocean transportation provider APL Limited (American President Lines) traces its history to the California Gold Rush of 1849. From its auspicious beginning as the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, the grand history of this Bay Area institution also includes Dollar Line, known for its elegant and extensive passenger services.

150th Anniversary Historical Web Site

To mark APL’s sesquicentennial, a stand-alone module was created to fit within the company’s Web site. In partnership with Douglas Jackson Creative Resources (a San Francisco-based project management firm), 150 years of APL’s history were chronicled and presented through narrative and timeline views, archival photographs, and a quick-time movie. The APL History site has captured, highlighted, and preserved an important chapter in maritime history.
